Giant squid really have been found around Gibraltar. In 2003, the sailing yacht Geronimo, was seized by a giant squid that was over 10m in length. It wrapped itself around the vessel's hull for an hour before letting go and returning to the depths. It’s tentacles were reported to be as thick as a man’s arm!
